Drink coffee doggy-style

For the first time dogs and coffee cups came together in Los Angeles. The Dog Café brought people and dogs together in a pleasant way. The point of this dog café was to give people the opportunity to adopt a dog. If you want to know more about this café, than do not stop reading.

What
Eater LA is the first pop-up store involving dogs, it is called The pup-up Dog Café. Since Eater LA first launched their campaign on a crowdfunding website it busted out of contributions. The mission of the café was to bring potential owners and their future dog together in a pleasant way. Eater LA did this in cooperation with  Grounds & Hounds, a coffee company. They donate 20% of their income to local animal rescues.  You could have visit the pop-up store just a few days in January 2015.

Why
Dog-lovers can spend quality time with the animals in need of a home while sipping from their favorite coffee drink. And it was the first of it’s kind in the US. With the cooperation between the coffee shop and the local animal rescue it will change the lives of many dogs. The dog project want to increase the number of dogs with a new home. It will reinvent the view on adopting dogs and even give dogs a change which seem to be unadoptable. It was the first doggy café, but it gave many dogs a change to meet their new forever families. It would be wonderful if there will be more pup-op cafes for animals who are looking for a new home, not only for dogs but for all kinds of animals. And it will be fun for either the animal as for the human. I believe if this concept has a great future growth potential. Especially in combination with a coffee café it will give a cozy vibe to the guests.

Conclusion
Are you in the market for a new pup? Or do you want to enjoy a nice cup of coffee with a lot of furry friends? Maybe there will pop up a new store somewhere. Keep your eyes wide open and maybe you will enjoy your walk home with a new forever furry friend.

The truth about food

What is in our food? The ingredients are not visible on the looks of food. Ofcourse some productspackagings have information on them, but what do we do when it does not have? Or how do we know the ingredients when we go out for dinner? The solution is the TellSpec, it gives al the information about your meal.

What

Isabel Hoffman is the founder en CEO of TellSpec. She came up with the product for her daughter who is gluten intolerant.  It was launched on the crowdfundingwebsite Indiegogo . It is particularly useful for people with allergies. But it can also be very useful for people who are on a diet. And it can even shows the amount of pesticides used on your product, which can be harmful. How does it work? Light is made up of particles called photons, when you aim the scanner at the food some of the photons are absorbed. It raises the energy states of the molecules up. These molecules get replaced by photons with more energy. De spectrometer in de TellSpec sorts and counts them. The resulting number’s describe the chemical compounds in the food. But all you have to do is simply aim the scanner on your food and with one press on the button TellSpec scans your food. The scanner must be connected to a tablet or smartphone, in this way you will receive a list of the different ingredients and nutritional values.

 Why

Until recently spectrometers were large and expensive, but now it is available as an affordable tiny chip. Because this was made possible they could create the TellSpec. Isabel tested it on various products and compared it to the packaging. Not all of the packing information was correct. Now a days people want more information about the food they consume. People have become more discerning about what products they buy. This product offers truly information to everyone using it. It will make food transparent for you and this is possible what many people are looking for. I think this product has a great growth potential for the future. For now it is to expensive for everyone to own, it costs over 300 dollar. I think this product has a great growth potential for the future, but only with a better and cheaper price.

With TellSpec you can go beyond the label. You can know what is really in your food. It is fast and easy. See the demo below for more information.

Breakfast... ew

There are so many different dishes in the world and every country often have different preferences. In The Open World we can see and share everything. Thanks to technologisation and digitalization we quickly get to information. This also means the dishes for foreign countries. But what are the opinions about these types of breakfast.

What is it?

Cut Video had put a video online on their youtube channel on February the 10th. In this video you can see how American children react to foreign breakfasts. The breakfasts are from Korea, Brazil, Finland, Vietnam, Poland and the Netherlands. The opinion from these children are clear, one of the comments “I found a dad fish in my breakfast”. As they say on their website “Cut is for everyone”.

Why is it cool?

In my small country, we start the day habit with a sandwich or yoghurt. The sandwich also comes with sugar sprinkles and the children appreciate this Dutch breakfast. Within a day the video had half a million views on YouTube already. It was also shared many times on Facebook. It is not only entertaining but also an interesting topic for research. Cut Video’s channel became more popular because of their short film and their name will be much better known than it was before. But this probably will not change much for our breakfast habits. Just as the children have said, some breakfasts seemed not very tasty.

Because of The Open World we share so many times an can easily arrive everywhere. But would this change our eating habits? I do not think so. If you are curious or want to try a different breakfast, you can click in the video on the recipe-link.

Spray it all over #her

What is in our food? Is it healthy? Is it good for the environment? It is increasingly clear about what is in our food. FoodWatch, the food watchdog, is up to date about what is in our food and they even make the results available for the public. A German product caught my eye about this matter.
Research: http://the-deli-garage.de
http://the-deli-garage.de

What is it?

Recently I found the photo's above on pinterest.com and they very appealed to me. The German company The Deli Garage changed the way we eat with their PFD-approved edible spray. The product is sold in gold, silver, red and blue in a convenient spray bottle. The Deli Garage is the first to introduce food colouring in a spray can. It is easy to order via the website and accessible for every one living in the European mainland countries. They can not ship the products overseas because of the legal export restrictions. The job is fast and easy, you just spray it. This way of serving a dish will immediately draw the attentions of guests, but would they know it is edible? I wonder if the FoodWatch already knows about this product and if they aproved it. Would you dare to eat it? Although the ingredients are publicly available on their website, I wonder whether it would be safe to eat.

Why is it cool?

Foodcouloring was longer available but never in a spray-can version. It will look very beautiful on diner or cocktailparties will probably will not become very popular in the ordinary household because. I wouldn't use it every day on my lunch and diner. The idea of foodcoulering is not innovative but the way to use is innovative and also very quickly and therefore interesting to try out for once.

The company is very tranparent about the ingredients they use in their product therefor they are a perfect example for other businesses which are not. It looks very fun to use and intersting to try, but that is my oppinioin. I am very curious about what you think about it and how you think about them being transparent about the spraycan. You can watch the video below to see how it is done.

Scrap-diner

It starts with throwing away good and not everyone is aware of the fact they do it to. A person disposes 50 kilos away a year. SIRE wants to make people aware about food waste through a commercial on TV and even shows it is fun and easy to use your leftovers.

What is it?

Stichting Ideële Reclame, also known as SIRE, is an indeptendent foundation dedicated to draw attention on social topics. SIRE came up with the initiative Kliekipedia, this is a part of the campaign against food waste. Food waste is not only a waste of money, but it also comes at the expense of the environment and for this reason Kliekipedia was launched. Kliekipedia can be used by anyone with leftovers or anyone who is interested in this topic. The Kliekipedia website also uses co-creation, you can add your own tips and recipes on scraps to the website. Kliekipedia might be the start of reducing food wastage because the website shows many useful tips and recipes all together. This could save quite a few euros for the Dutchman which are known for their thrift and stinginess.

Why is it cool?

There are many books, apps and websites about cooking. From my own experience I know I often have many leftovers and the next day I did not feel like eating the same again. Kliekipedia is innovative because it mainly looks at preventing food waste which other cooking books/websites/apps do not. The website also provides extensive information on food waste which makes to importance of food waste prevention clear for everyone. In the near future I think is website will be a great success and recipes will never run out because of the co-creation. But there is one downside on this website, it is difficult to find a recipe that suits your leftovers. With an additional search function for your scraps on the website it would be easier to use.

Conclusion

With some help from Kliekipedia.nl, scraps for yesterday can make a whole new dish for today. It is an open platform where as many as possible knowledge and inspiration can be shared. Kliekipedia suits the trend ‘the open world – trensparency’ very well. People can work together to create a new way to prevent food waste and knowledge is shared to move forward together. For more information, recipes, tips or to add your own tips and recipes go to: www.kliekipedia.nl

Rick Owens' dicks

Rick Owens showed some balls during his fashion show ‘menswear Fall/Winter 2015’ in Paris the 22th of January. Rick loves to push the boundaries, the designer sent four of this models down the runway with peepholes. These peepholes showed their male nudity underneath.

What?

Richard Saturnino Owens, known as Rick Owens, is an American fashion designer. He has one of the most progressive profession these is now-a-days. Through his show he wanted to illustrate a point and he wanted to show a graceful world which was free of shame and fear. The designer suffered from shame and fear in his youth, because of this he wants to process as much as possible loving energy in his designs. Owens responded to the controversy that arose after he sent the models down the catwalk by sending an email to ‘Women’s wear daily’. “I pass classical marble statues of nude and draped figures in the park every day, and they are a vision of sensuality — yes, but also of grace and freedom”.

Why?

We, people, barely raise our eyebrows. Who hasn’t seen exposed nipples, naked bottoms or breasts? Probably everybody has seen it. Sex sells, that is a fact. So why was there commotion about the nude male genitals? Censorship and gender equality are a constant issue of today and Owens made a statement with his show about this problem.

This fashion show in Paris created degeneration and that was exactly what Rick Owens referred to. This show took us to another world, free for imagination. It showed a mix of impossible glamour, fantasy, wealth, transvestism and androgyny. But in the real world you can constantly show your penis even on a catwalk in Paris. See the video below for the show:
